How to split a PDF for email without losing context
Splitting a large PDF can make email delivery easier, but arbitrary page ranges may separate a signature from its agreement or a table from its headings. Split around meaningful boundaries.
Choose logical ranges
Use chapters, exhibits, invoices, or date ranges. Add clear filenames and page labels so recipients know how the pieces relate. Remove pages and attachments that are not part of the request before splitting.
Check size and readability
Compress selectively if needed, but keep small text, barcodes, and signatures readable. Avoid repeated recompression. Inspect every output for page order, bookmarks, links, and metadata.
Verify privacy in every piece
Search each split file for sensitive values and check that a removed page’s source is not embedded as an attachment. Send only the pieces required for the recipient’s purpose.
Frequently asked questions
Should each part repeat the cover page?
Only if it helps identify the part and does not duplicate sensitive content unnecessarily.
How should files be named?
Use a stable project name, section, sequence, and version.
Is a download link safer than multiple attachments?
It depends on the approved channel and access controls. Match delivery to sensitivity.
