Redacted means gone.

Most PDF redaction draws a black box over the text and hopes. The words are still in the file: selectable, searchable, one copy-paste from a headline. Basalt removes them from the file itself. Try it:

The engine that opens your documents is a separate process holding no network entitlement. That isn't a privacy policy. It's a property of the signed binary, enforced by macOS. Check it on your own copy:

Every export signs its work.

Before a redacted file reaches you, Basalt re-opens what it wrote with an independent parser and proves the job: strings absent, pixels changed, history gone. If any check fails, no file is written at all. Then it says so, in a certificate you can file, verifiable with shasum and openssl, no Basalt required.

Can you see my documents? +
No, and we couldn't if we wanted to. There is no server, no account, no telemetry. The engine that opens your files holds no network entitlement, enforced by macOS at the signature level. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits; the application itself does not, and its engine cannot reach the network at all.
How do I know redaction really destroys the text? +
Three ways. The verifier re-opens every export and proves the strings absent before a file is written. The output is byte-reproducible, so a third party can re-run your marks and confirm. And the Inspector will happily show you what other tools left behind in a “redacted” file. Try it on one.
Is it a subscription? +
No. $29 buys a lifetime license for up to three Macs. We think a tool you use on privileged documents should not stop working when a card expires.
