How to redact a home address from a PDF
A home address is more than one text string. The same location may appear as a mailing block, parcel description, map pin, geolocation link, utility-account header, envelope image, or shortened reference in a narrative.
Build address variants
Search the street number with and without the street name, abbreviations such as Street and St, unit formats, postal code, and nearby landmarks. Search the resident's name beside address labels. OCR may split 12B into 12 B or confuse digits, so exact matches are not enough.
Review repeated letterheads and mail-merge headers. A recipient block may be drawn as an image or stored in a form field even when the body is ordinary text.
Review maps, links, and photographs
A map crop, QR code, house photograph, or geolocation hyperlink can reveal the location without printing the address. If approved for removal, destroy the relevant image pixels and remove the link action; covering either one visually is not sufficient.
Check document properties and XMP for source paths or filenames containing the address. Attached utility bills or source images remain separate from the visible PDF pages.
Preserve necessary geography
The governing rule may call for removing a street address while leaving a city and state, or it may require broader location removal. Mark to that instruction instead of deleting every geographic reference. Verify the output by searching all variants and examining embedded images and actions.

Is removing the street line enough?
Not always. Unit numbers, postal codes, maps, hyperlinks, filenames, and contextual descriptions can still identify the residence.
Can cropping a map hide the location?
PDF cropping may only change the viewing boundary. The full image can remain embedded, so use destructive image redaction and verify extraction.
Should city and state remain visible?
That depends on the disclosure rule and purpose. Follow the specific instruction rather than applying an all-or-nothing address rule.
